Founder, Executive Director
Sara Friedrichs
Sara is an education and youth programming professional with over 10 years of experience and a strong commitment to the Bryan-College Station (BCS) community. A proud Texas A&M University Class of 2015 alumna, Sara taught in CSISD before starting her own tutoring business to support students in developing time management, organizational skills, and academic confidence. She is passionate about guiding students through life transitions and empowering them to be confident and capable. Through GAP Camp, Sara's mission is to inspire young learners to thrive in intermediate school and beyond.

Co-Program Director
Matthew Bowen, M.Ed
Matthew is the Co-Program Director for Bridge the GAP Camp. He earned his M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University, specializing in cognition, creativity, intelligence, and development. After teaching math at College Station High School for several years, Matthew moved to Austin, TX, where he currently resides and teaches. Despite this, he returns to College Station each summer to continue working with youth camps. With over 15 years of camp experience, Matthew is eager to bring his unique expertise to GAP Camp and help make it a standout summer program.

Co-Program Director
Dr. Matt Ortega
Matt is an experienced education professional and doctoral candidate at Baylor University’s Ed.D. program for Learning and Organizational Change. He successfully defended his dissertation in February 2025. With a background that includes roles as a camp program specialist, coordinator, and assistant principal, he has a passion for empowering youth and developing meaningful programs. Now serving as Co-Program Director for Bridge the GAP Camp, Matt blends his leadership and curriculum design expertise with his love for camps to help campers build confidence and gain skills for academic and personal growth.

RLA Specialist
Jody Rodriguez, M.Ed
Jody is the Reading/Language Arts (RLA) Specialist at Bridge the GAP Camp. With a focus on bridging 4th and 5th grade curriculum, Jody guides campers through essential RLA concepts such as story elements, reading comprehension, main ideas, and basic grammar and mechanics. Her approach helps students make meaningful connections between grade levels, reinforcing key skills and preparing them for a successful transition. Through engaging lessons, Jody also emphasizes writing details, ensuring that campers build a solid foundation to excel in their intermediate school journey.

Math Specialist
Amy Burns
Amy is the Math Specialist at Bridge the GAP Camp. She focuses on reinforcing key 4th grade math concepts to help campers seamlessly connect to 5th grade curriculum. Amy’s engaging lessons cover essential topics such as place value, decimals, multiplication, and division, as well as real-life word problems that enhance problem-solving skills. By bridging these foundational math skills, Amy ensures that campers are well-prepared and confident as they transition into intermediate school. Her expertise and dedication make math both approachable and enjoyable, setting students up for future academic success.
